brecon_squareLocated on Vineyard Drive just north of the famed West Hwy 46, Brecon Estate is owned and operated by two families, the Grindleys and the Hacketts. Damian Grindley, “a proud Welshman” and veteran of the international wine industry, acts as winemaker and Simon Hackett, an Australian internet entrepreneur, oversees business development. In the background but integral to Brecon Estate, operations manager Amanda Grindley and architect Anna Hackett have been friends since adolescence.

Brecon’s vineyards occupy 23 acres of the original Adelaida district, Bordeaux-varietal plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc; four acres of newly-planted Petit Verdot and an exciting, newly-imported Montain clone of Argentine Malbec, as well as a number of hilltop sites across the Central Coast highlands.

With some of the 1st plantings in the Adelaida district by one of the pioneers of the region, we have the pleasure of producing an Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon which has been converted and farmed to dry grown and has not been irrigated for 4 years now. Naturally crops around 2.5 tons to the acre.

club_bottle_shotIn terms of wine, Brecon isn’t wedded to any one style or family of varietals, though Bordeaux varieties certainly shine in their westside vineyards. A Cabernet-Syrah blend (50/50) was inspired by Australia’s iconic Penfolds Grange, combining “the fruit-forward elegance and black pepper of Brecon’s Kiler Canyon Syrah with the alluring structure” of Brecon Estate old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon from Adelaida. Brecon also currently offers a 100% old-vine Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from the same vineyard and varietal Cabernet Franc.
